Matter of fact is that some of it is really needed, i.e. e-mail address to send you the invoices, phone number to contact you in case of need and address to ship goods obviously, but why would they need your birthday or how many kids you have. And some could argue if the contact info is always needed in such detail.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Take this into consideration when asking your clients their specific information \u2013 is it really needed? A help there comes from asking \u201cWhat am I going to use the information for?\u201d If you cannot answer to this question with a sensible reason (jokes aside), then maybe you shouldn\u2019t require the clients to reveal such information to you. Asking for the sake asking isn\u2019t really appropriate here.<\/p>\n
Once you\u2019ve determined you will need your client to give some of their personal information, consider what other usages there could be for the information. Who and for what purpose could misuse it?<\/p>\n
Combine the question if it\u2019s really needed with the consideration of how it could be misused and come up with a protection plan. A plan to keep your clients\u2019 information secured and not accessible by any other third party is important in every business and yours isn\u2019t an exception. You should never give it out to anyone else without prior consent from the client and what\u2019s more, you ought to take reasonable measures to keep it safe.<\/p>\n
