Other reserves you may have within your equity

What are those other reserves there sometimes are on the statement of changes in owner’s equity? Besides share capital, retained earnings and share premium it’s possible an entity also has an account labeled as Other reserves.  What’s that about?

Other reserves are more often created just so to avoid restrictions imposed on share capital, any legal reserves within the equity by the regulation. For an example the minimum size of them and the preconditions for a payment out of them and so on.

Other reserves are also created to improve the health of the entity’s equity without increasing its share capital. Payments into other reserves are often much less complicated as opposed to payments into share capital.

It is important to note that forming other reserves is something that most often is required to be regulated and at least allowed to be formed by the articles of association of an entity itself. If the articles say nothing about other reserves I suggest you consult with your local legislation on how to proceed.
