How to open word document in edit mode instead of read only? | Word 365

Protected view can be removed in File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings… > Protected View

Click File from ribbon

Click Options from the bottom of the menu

Click Trust Center from the bottom of the menu

Click Trust Center Settings…

Click Protected View from the menu

Remove:

  • Enable Protected View for files originating from the internet
  • Enable Protected View for files located in potentially unsafe locations
  • Enable Protected View for Outlook attachments
